What is FAL ?FAL is a two-tiered physical and digital NFT platform that uses Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to own, authenticate, catalog, inventory, manage and buy and sell physical or digital works of art.
-
What are the 'Two-Tiers' of the FAL Platform? The 'Two-Tiers' are the FAL Register and the FAL Marketplace.
-
What is The FAL Register? The FAL Register is the part of the FAL platform that lets you mint, catalog, and track physical and digital artworks and create FAL Fine Art Mobile Experiences for each work. It is located here, and is the platform that connects the physical or digital art to the NFTs.
-
What is The FAL Marketplace? The FAL Marketplace is a physical and digital NFT marketplace that is linked to The FAL Register. The FAL Marketplace has not yet been released for public use.
-
Who is FAL for?FAL is for Artists, Collectors, Galleries, Art Fairs, Museums, Art Hotels, Art Restaurants, Art Lovers, Art Learners. In fact anyone or any space involved or interested in Art.
-
Why do I need FAL?FAL seeks to authenticate Art before it is sold. It uses NFTs and Web3 to authenticate, own, catalog, manage, inventory, promote and buy and sell Art. Using FAL, you are able to verify, and learn about the Art, the Artist and other information with your mobile phone, in a 'Shazam' type Mobile Fine Art Experience™ . FAL seeks to make Art transactions easier, safer and to reduce instances of fraud or fakes in the marketplace. It also aims to enhance access to, and bring people closer to Art. Its Mobile Fine Art Experiences™ are easily customized with content to tell the Art Story.
-
Does FAL Authenticate Works of Fine Art ?No. It provides a service to use NFTs and WEb3 to record fine art information which is provided to it. FAL is a software platform which mints NFTs for works of fine art, and maintains a digital catalog of the art for its users, including a real-time, NFT- authenticated certificate of authenticity for the art. Blockchain can be used as a means of authenticating records, but as with any other source of information, FAL is reliant on the information provided to it in relation to a work of art. FAL may conduct a surface review of the art information submitted to it, and may raise certain inquiries of the user, if the user's artwork submission appears inconsistent or incomplete on the surface.
-
Is There a Fee or Subscription to Sign Up to FAL or Mint Artworks ?No. While FAL is in Beta there is no fee or subscription to sign up or mint artworks. In order to connect the artwork to its NFTs, you do need to buy a FAL NFC Tag. The artwork is lazy minted until the Tag is digitally attached to the artwork. On The FAL Register, you do not have to pay any gas fees to mint your NFTs. You do need to pay gas fees, though, to fully mint in The FAL Marketplace.
-
How do I Mint an NFT on FAL ?Go to the Submit Artworks page in your FAL Member Account. If you are not already a FAL Member, you will be asked to sign up. Then simply fill out the 'Submit Work' form, check the required boxes, and click submit once. If you haven't yet purchased a FAL NFT Tag for the work, simply select "Register without a Tag" when you get to the Serial Number field in the form. You can always buy FAL NFC Tags later and tag them to artworks previously submitted and approved. It may take a few seconds to submit the work, and until you see the confirmation of submission on the page. So hang tight, and you should be on your way!
-
Can I Mint Digital as Well as Physical Art ?Yes, you may, and FAL is designed to mint physical works of art or what we call 'Physical NFTs'. Our slogan is 'NFT All Your Art', and we are serious about that. For us NFTs are not just about digital art. We see NFTs as ownership records in underlying assets, whether physical or digital. So, minting all of your art with FAL is easy! For digital works we require that you submit to FAL the original high-resolution image and agree not to authenticate or tokenize the work outside of FAL.
-
Why is Fine Art Title Important ?Who owns a work and the historical ownership of fine art (or 'provenance') is important for a number of reasons. Establishing legal and benefical ownership enables a buyer to safely purchase art knowing that her seller can transfer ownership of the art to her. Establishing title also provides comfort to lenders using artwork as collateral, and, for insurers, that the insured has an insurable interest. Provenance is important in authenticating art, and determing value in the historical succession of title in the work. From a digital assets, point of view, an authenticated register of ownership is the foundation for establishing the rights of holders of digital assets in the underlying work of fine art.
-
Does FAL Mint NFT's ?Yes, it does! The FAL Register is powered by Polygon, and we employ an ERC 1155 smart contract to mint FAL NFTs. This is because each work, whether physical or digital, minted on FAL receives 100 Non-Fungible Tokens which we call Art Title Tokens (ATT).™ ATT's are mapped to each artwork and minting, transfers and other polygon transactions on FAL are free, and you do not have to pay any gas fees. ATT, as its name suggests, are representative of each user's title in his physical or digital work registered on FAL. They're FAL's NFTs!
-
Does FAL Charge to add a Mobile Fine Art Experience™ to a Work ?Yes. You may buy FAL Mobile Fine Art Experiences here. On purchase, the Serial Number for each Mobile Fine Art Experience is immediately added to your FAL Member Account and available to select and use in the Serial Number field of the Submit Works page of your FAL Member Account. So, you can register your works, and add Mobile Fine Art Experiences to your works even before you receive your FAL NFC Tags, and get the full Mobile Fine Art Experience with a work using FAL image recognition.
-
Who Holds FAL's ATT's and Can I Trade Them on FAL ?FAL holds the ATT's and each ATT is mapped to your artwork and you as the holder on FAL. So , you don't need a wallet to hold your NFTs and you don't pay gas fees. FAL pays all gas fees on the FAL Register. We have designed it this way to make it easier for you to mint, manage, and track your artworks and the NFTs in them. FAL is an art title register, not a trading platform. ATT's represent the FAL registered owner's title in the work. So, you can buy and sell your artwork off-FAL, and record transfer of registered title in the work on FAL. Much the same as a land registry does not concern itself with the terms of the purchase or sale, or any funds changing hands, so too does FAL as a title register not concern itself with the buying and selling of works of art and does not handle transmission of funds in relation thereto Subject to certain considerations, FAL intends to release a marketplace on which both physical and digital NFT's for artworks registered on FAL may be bought and sold. Get on the wait list for early access to the FAL Marketplace here.
-
How do I Transfer ATT's then ?ATT's, representative of a FAL registered owner's title in a work, may be transferred using FAL's transfer feature. This requires the Transferee's email and physical address, and the transfer request is submitted to FAL for approval. On approval, the transferee is invited to join FAL, if not already a FAL Member, and receives her own FAL account in which the transferred work is cataloged. So your digital catalog for the artwork, and all its information are transferred with the NFTs to your transferee, and all are digitally catalogued and accessibly by your transferee in her very own confidential FAL account.
-
Can I Share Ownership in a Work ?Yes, you can. Simply transfer less than 100 ATT's in the work to be registered together with your transferee(s) as registered owner on FAL. The Certificate of Authenticity for the work will reflect your co-ownership, together with the percentages of that ownership.
-
How does FAL Tie the Artwork to its NFTs?By tagging the art with a proprietary FAL NFC Tag! Yes, it is that simple Once tagged, the link ties the NFT details with the art asset details. And of course, we employ some serious IPFS metadata for each artwork that digitally connects the artwork to the NFT. Once your artwork is tagged, you can easily check out its NFTs metadata as the IPFS link is displayed on your FAL blockchain-authenticated and real-time Certificate of Authenticity for the work. NFC tags are activated by a tap with your mobile phone. You can also use FAL's image recognition to verify the artwork and its NFT details, on your desktop or mobile phone, here. And you can buy FAL NFC Tags, here.
-
What are Mobile Fine Art Experiences™ ?FAL Mobile Fine Art Experiences are the way FAL connects the digital record of an artwork on FAL with the underlying artwork to which it relates. Mobile Fine Art Experiences are viewed on your mobile phone when you connect with the artwork, whether through tapping an NFC Tag tagged to the work or through FAL's image recognition. Mobile Fine Art Experiences display the work's blockchain authenticated**, real-time Certificate of Authenticity, and image for the work and its and the artist's details. They can also contain other content that the owner of the work adds to the Mobile Fine Art Experience for the work.
-

This includes videos, images, links, documents, Instagram posts, documents and buttons. When connected through a Mobile Fine Art Experience, the added content is displayed on the work viewer's mobile phone.

-
What Checks Does FAL do Before Approving an Artwork Submission ?FAL may send follow up questions for clarification to the FAL Member who has submitted the work. Any FAL review of a submitted work is limited to corrections of superficial or readily apparent errors or inconsistencies in the information submitted on the artwork, and it is, in any event, not obligated to correct those before approving. FAL does not conduct any investigation into title or authenticity, veracity or completeness of the infomation submitted to it and does not verify that the work actually exists, is what it purports to be or that it is in any person's possession or control.
-

Ensure that 'Restrict' is on for each artwork in your catalog. This is designed to block access to the Certificate of Authenticity, including the name and address of the FAL registered title holder(s) contained in it, to anyone not signed into your FAL Member Account who taps a FAL NFC Tag for the work or who recognizes the work using FAL Art Recognition.™ It is very important to ensure your permissions are properly set, as FAL's Art recognition may pull the image if it finds a reasonably high similarity between the image its captures and your image, even if the FAL user is physically remote from your work.
-
Can I Mint Art NFTs on FAL ?Yes. Minting of physical or digital artwork on FAL is open to anyone who signs up to FAL. Mint a work here. There is no charge to mint a work, and you may mint as many artworks as you like. You do, however, need to buy a FAL NFC Tag to connect your artwork to the NFTs. What is an NFT?An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a unique digital and controllable electronic record that is stored on a blockchain. Each NFT has a distinct digital identity that cannot be replicated or duplicated, making it unique in its own right.
-
What is a Physical NFT?Physical NFTs, sometimes also known as "phygital" NFTs, are non-fungible tokens linked to physical objects or assets, such as artwork, collectibles, or even real estate. Essentially, a physical NFT is a digital representation of a physical item, and the token serves as proof of ownership or authenticity of the physical object and can serve many other functions relating to the underlying asset.
